/-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------\ | TRAIN issue B. Fat Controller: Simon Hornby, 139 Scotland Road, Cambridge CB4 1QL | \-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------/ Well, it's been another hectic life in the month of yer favourit' sub-sub-zine editor. Oxcon has come and gone, and I got eliminated because I tried to go from 1 to 2 centres. Ah well, never say die, I went and played Talisman and maintained a lifetime unbeaten record at it. I know I must have somehow made it, 'cos Vick Hall has now sent me or given me at cons the last 3 issues of ALOS, without payment, which reminds me I must send him a sub. Also, Gihan sent me a copy of his new freezine, which is a novel concept. I liked it, but haven't had time to write back to him and say so. The other indicator that I have somehow 'made' it, is that Vick has produced a card with me on in his latest release of his hobby personality trading card game. Excellent. Moving on to the games, which don't exist yet: I've had some names for Killer, which I won't mention yet, as you're not meant to know who else is playing until I tell you. My editor Chris, and his Oxford crony Andrew Huddleston have signed up for my Monopoly variant, but no-one else has shown interest. We'll leave that open for now. Here are the rules: The game is played as the normal game of Monopoly except as noted below. 1) Choice of pieces. Send in a preference list, I will decide who gets what. 2) Suggest to me a special power associated with the piece you get. I will decide if that is reasonable, if not you will get one of my choice. 3) Starting money is 3000 pounds, due to extra expenses of the special rules. 4) Similarly to 3, go nets you 300 pounds per time. Landing exactly on GO does not score double. 5) Each player's turn is taken simultaneously. Orders about buying property can be conditional (eg: buy anything I land on except waterworks). 6) Each turn, a random order will be generated in which players move. This can be important as noted below. 7) If two players land on the same unpurchased property on the same turn, the player who was first in the order for that turn will be allowed to purchase it. 8) All fines, purchases and additions of money are simultaneous. If two players land on a property and the first one buys it, no fine will be levied that turn. Similarly, houses hotels etc can only be purchased at the end of a turn, and do not affect people landing on them in the turn they are bought. Conditional orders for house building are allowed (eg: I own Whitechapel, if I land on Old Kent Road I want to buy hotels on them both this turn) 9) Other conditionals. Conditional orders for other thingv are allowed. If a situation arises that requirev a decision from players, such av the community chest card "Pay a 10 pound fine or take a 'Chance'", I will determine randomly, unless a prior conditional has been specified. 10) Trading is allowed. All player invovled must send me orders to carry out a trade in the same turn for it to go ahead. Be as complicated as you like, with conditional trades, 3 and 4 way trades etc. [Chris Dickson adds: please be aware that Vick Hall's "Simon Hornby" trading card supposedly bears the legend: "Some fat git (unknown)."]
