Despite a marginally obvious clue last time the correct answer has, I'm afraid to say, eluded you all thus far, and so desperate measures must be taken. The incorrect, but much appreciated, answers were: Phil Hannay suggested Pandarus, based on Greek myth; Dave Percik pointed out that Pandarus was another name for Pandora (already a name used by another panda of mine) and ventured the very amusing Oedipanda; Mark Stretch made the Freudian slip of nominating Annie (and I quote - "what could be cuddlier?"); Jim Hardy probably felt a right banana when he told my parents his guess of Paddington on the phone; Geoff Brown applied far too much logic in going for Bald Panda, and Gordon Aickin, in his own words, thought it was "named after the TV show, with the helicopter, which chased two people running around with back packs on, one of which had money in. That is about the right vintage, isn't it?". Gasp. Even I never thought of naming one of my pandas after a game show. The mind boggles. Gordon, it's good, but it's not right. (You are about right age-wise, though, I'd say.) So I shall blatantly crib from one of my earliest memories of childhood TV (probably Play School, but I can't be sure). A children's programme featured a video clip of children at a fair, taking part in a "Guess the name of the duck to win it" contest; a book contained some likely and unlikely names for a big cuddly toy duck, and the children, for 10p, could write their name alongside one of the candidate duck names. Whoever guessed the right name won the duck. I was thrilled to see that the duck was called "Fluffy". We shall apply the same procedure here. Thirty possible names for the big panda (whose head is roughly round and white apart from two askew floppy black ears, circles where eyes should be stitched on, and what looks like a collapsed black yorkshire pudding for a nose) follow. One of them is right; 29 are wrong, some plausible, most ridiculous. One of the people who guesses the right name wins a mystery prize. Don't worry, it isn't the big panda himself. If I have received no correct entries by the time I do GIT 10 (not 9) then I shall sulk and reveal the answer. And you'll all kick yourselves. To make it easier, I shall slip a blatant clue somewhere into this issue of GIT. Not going to tell you where, though. It could be anywhere.
